Tunnel Web Cam

Just came across this.  You might find it interesting.

So What is it like to cross the border on the Tunnel Bus?

Ok, folks, here’s what it’s like to cross the border on the Tunnel Bus.  Watch and see!

Bonus Trivia Question!

I was recently asked this question, so I’ll pose it to the group.

What was the first animal used by US Customs/Immigration?

Trivia Thursday

Today’s question is more of a who can guess the date question.  It has been 9 days since President Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States.  Unfortunately, the news of the new President still hasn’t made it to our Northern border.  I thought we lived in a time where news travels at the speed of light.  Maybe US Customs or Homeland Security (whatever they want to call themselves) is waiting for Paul Revere to deliver the news by horseback.  They probably don’t know that Paul isn’t around anymore.

So here’s the question:  Can you guess the date when the Tunnel Custom’s Office will post the picture of the current President?

Trivia Week: First Car

What was the first car to travel through the Detroit - Windsor Tunnel?

Trivia Week: How Many Tiles in the Tunnel?

Here’s today’s question:   How many tiles cover the walls of the Tunnel?

Here’s my answer:  69,660

I know that Tunnel is 5160 feet in length or 61,920 inches.  If the tiles are 16 inches long, that means there are 3870 tiles for one row.  There are 9 tiles high and 2 walls.  So (61920 / 16) * 9 * 2 = 69,660.

Anyone else care to venture a guess?

It requires a lot time in the Tunnel to think about this.

Trivia Week: Monday

I thought it was time for some interaction with readers.  This week, I’m going to post trivia questions about the Tunnel, the Bus, or Customs.  Like today’s question, I’m not sure what the answer is so I’m hoping that someone will inform me of the answer and post it on the blog.  So here we go:

Question:  What do the numbers on the side of the Tunnel indicate?  What’s the lowest number and the highest number?

(Insert your own Jeopardy music while you answer the question)

48-Hours Later

It’s time for the US Customs/Immigration/Homeland Security folks at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel to get with the rest of the United States of America.  2 days ago, the world watch as our new President was inaugurated.  A welcome relief for all of humankind.  Thank goodness!  I have nothing but high praise to say about our new President.  I am looking forward to the change of direction that the US is about to embark on.

However, there is one problem — pictures of the former President “W” were suppose to be removed and “discarded with respect” by yesterday.  As of this morning, the Detroit - Windsor Tunnel is business as usual with the old regime still pictorially displayed on the wall.

Please change the pictures!  It’s disrespectful.  And oh yea, lighten up in the morning — we’re workers living in Windsor working in Detroit.  Most of us have been crossing the border for years.  We are not criminals and don’t treat us like one.  I’m allowed to carry paper work, lunch and my laptop across the border.  Don’t make a federal issue out of it every time we cross.

Walk Home Tonight?

Frozen Detroit River

I’ve never really thought about this until today.  With last night’s temperature reaching -12 F in Windsor and the lunchtime temperature at a balmy -8 F, I’m thinking we might be able to walk home — or at least across the River.  It’s official in my books.  The Detroit River is frozen across.  This morning on my way in I stopped to take some amazing pictures of the sun reflecting on the Detroit skyline through the steam pouring off the River.  I’ll post them later.

It’s noon and bitterly cold, the River is frozen . . . can we walk home tonight?

Auto Show

Get ready everyone — the Auto Show is about to begin.  Here’s the all important Tunnel Bus - Auto Show checklist:

1.  Go to the bathroom before leaving Windsor in the morning and before leaving the office.

2.  Don’t forget rule 1.

3.  Don’t make any appointments in Windsor during the Show.  You’ll never get back in time.

4.  Take Martin Luther King’s Birthday off.

5.  Don’t forget rule number 1

6.  Wear a warm coat, gloves and hat.  You might be standing outside as Tunnel Bus after Tunnel Bus pass by you full.

7.  Program Transit Windsor’s telephone number into your cell phone.

8.  Be on very good behavior with regular bus drivers — offers of cookies and treates makes sure you have a space reserved.

9.  Take a vacation if you can.

10.  Did I say this before?  Do NOT forget to go to the bathroom!  Take it from someone who has experience with this one!  DO NOT FORGET!
